Today Cod Liver Oil is recognized for a variety of benefits and uses. It promotes a healthy immune system and is helpful in easing the symptoms of arthritis. Because cod liver oil naturally contains Vitamins D & A plus Omega 3’s – necessary for healthy skin, bones and teeth.
Also important, and sometimes overlooked is, it also helps the body adsorb calcium and supports cardiovascular health.
BEST SOURCE OF VITAMIN D
pure cod liver oil.
This past year I turned 52 and my skin suddenly turned very dry, thin, and itchy. It was awful! Menopause SUCKS!
Using a skin cream wasn’t going to FIX the problem so I did some research. Cod liver oil was one of the recommended treatments. The vitamin D and A as well as the high content of Omega 3 fat was supposed to be very helpful.
Because I already had capsuled cod liver oil that I liked I just started taking two a day. It didn’t help. Upon closer inspection the capsules weren’t ALL cod liver oil and they had stuffed in alternate sources of vitamin D. This meant I wasn’t getting as much Omega 3 fats. So I switched to pure cod liver oil.
It tastes like low tide on a hot summer day… YUCK (super gross)!!
I took one teaspoon morning and night (every 12 hours) for two weeks. At the end of the two weeks my skin looked 10 years younger. The rash is gone. The thin skin look is gone.
I am mega-impressed.
Now I just take one teaspoon in the morning.
***WARNING*** This is not a medical recommendation, just my personal experience.
The history of Cod Liver Oil
Cod Liver Oil became an established supplement in the North Atlantic fishing communities Of Newfoundland and across the ocean in the North Sea communities of Iceland, Greenland and Scotland centuries ago.
Originally used to help people from developing rickets from a vitamin D deficiency. In the 1890’s rickets affected 90% of children who were malnourished. It was a staple among the elderly to relieve aching joints and sooth symptoms of rheumatism.
Many people have historically taken Cod Liver Oil to combat the common cold. Making it part of your daily regime could mean you reduce the number of colds you catch in the first place.
Throughout the years Cod Liver Oil has continued to be studied and in the 1950’s research on the Omega 3 content on the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA that occurred naturally in the Cod Liver Oil added the known benefits to the cardiovascular system.
