Who knew they would age this way?
Some days when I look in the mirror I am genuinely surprised. Everyone is getting older but watching youth leave and old age creep in can be a little discouraging. Of course having smoked for over 20 years didn’t help. Fortunately, not all is lost.
The Other Side to Face Wrinkles
Smile lines let people know you have laughed and know how to.
Frowning and sad face will mark up the skin too. After several years these lines will be there with or without the smile or frown. The facial muscles underneath cause the movement and the skin will crease.
The skin furrow from the nose to the mouth corners are more prominent as the skin loses its elasticity. Age brings about more face fat as well which will deepen the appearance of the groove.
Being wrinkle conscious can actually cause more of an emotional distress than just the appearance of aging skin. Smiling actually improves the mood. Smiling is also contagious. Try it. Smile at someone and see if they don’t smile back.
Those old age lines can actually create positive thinking. It may be that smiling can create a positive thought, just as a happy thought can create a smile. Smiling is a happy thing and happiness brings with it health and longevity.
The only way to completely prevent wrinkles is to not use the face muscles at all. Zero expression. Botox injections have been used for this and an odd, unexpected side effect has popped up as a result. The inability to show emotion on the face also inhibits the ability to feel the emotion as intensely as a person who hasn’t inhibited their muscles with Botox.
Botox paralyzes the muscles. The face muscles that have been injected will not move resulting in less facial expression and less emotion.
Better Skin, Less Wrinkles Through Diet
The types of foods that give skin a healthy appearance and contribute to that “glow” are fruits and vegetables that contain a lot of vitamins like A, B, C, and high in carotenoids. These are found in colorful fruits and vegetables like reds, yellows, and oranges. Believe it or not if you eat lots and lots of carrots your skin can turn orange!
Colorful foods will give skin a nice healthy hue.
Helping to create healthy skin that is not too oily, or too dry, or prone to acne is done by ensuring a proper diet for healthy cleaning organs. The kidneys and liver are responsible for cleaning and filtering. Keeping these healthy lets them do their job. Feeding them junk food will make them work harder and if they are overworked can result in various skin conditions.
Eating healthily includes whole foods and excludes processed foods. Foods that have a healthy supply of good fats for the skin as well as lots of water. Making sure these are in good amount in your diet can help to hide fine lines.
Healthy fats come from sardines, cod liver oil, and anchovies. Artichoke is a healthy vegetable fat source. Symptoms of dry patchy and cracked skin can indicate this is missing from your diet. Coconut oil is a great source for eating and for applying on the skin for health.
Another source of healthy foods are fermented vegetables. They have become known as “superfoods” for all their great health benefits.
Already mentioned is to remove junk and processed foods from the diet. This includes sugars and flour.
Healthy skin needs sun. The sun is absolutely necessary for our body to be able to produce vitamin D. Too much baking in the sun can dry and accelerate wrinkling of the skin and it is best to wear a hat to keep the face protected.
Exercise will help to keep the skin in top condition by encouraging drinking of more water and producing chemicals that aid in maintaining a youthful appearance.
